Case picking is the process of selecting full cases or cartons from stored inventory to complete an order. It allows a customer to receive the exact number of cases required without moving an entire pallet. For example, if a customer orders 12 cases and the inventory is stored on a pallet containing 48, case picking allows the 12 requested cases to be removed while the remaining 36 cases stay in storage.
Case picking is different from pallet picking, which involves moving a complete pallet. It is also different from piece picking, where individual items are removed from inside a case. With case picking, the warehouse selects complete cases or cartons according to the customer’s order.
